October 2023 saw amendments to fire safety legislation making it a requirement for all public and commercial premises, such as schools, warehouses, factories, offices and retail outlets to have an up to date Fire Risk Assessment. Further to this, premises which provide sleeping accommodation such as Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMO's), blocks of flats, sheltered housing and business which provide sleeping accommodation (such as B&Bs and Hotels) are also required to have an up to date Fire Risk Assessment.

Fire Risk Assessments should be conducted in accordance with PAS 79, and areas of this are due to be supplemented by BS9792, after consultations have completed. With this, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Building Safety Act 2022 amongst other relevant regulations should be utilised to suppliment this framework.
